Taste Disorders
Taste disorders refer to conditions that affect a person's ability to perceive flavors. These disorders can result in a reduced ability to taste (hypogeusia), a complete loss of taste (ageusia), or distorted taste perceptions (dysgeusia). Various factors, including medications, infections, and underlying health issues, can contribute to these disorders.
Common causes of taste disorders include respiratory infections, such as the common cold, and neurological conditions like Parkinson's disease. Additionally, certain medications, particularly those used in cancer treatment, can alter taste sensations. Treatment often focuses on addressing the underlying cause and may involve dietary adjustments to enhance flavor perception.
