Tana River mangabey
The Tana River mangabey is a primate species native to the Tana River region in Kenya. It is characterized by its distinctive black and white facial markings and long, slender limbs. This monkey primarily inhabits riverine forests and is known for its social behavior, often living in groups.
These mangabeys primarily feed on fruits, leaves, and seeds, playing a vital role in their ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal. Unfortunately, the Tana River mangabey is classified as endangered due to habitat loss and fragmentation, primarily caused by agriculture and logging activities in its natural habitat.
