The Tairona were an indigenous people who lived in the northern region of present-day Colombia, particularly in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. They thrived from around 1000 AD until the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. The Tairona were known for their advanced agricultural practices, intricate goldwork, and complex social structures.
Their society was organized into several chiefdoms, each with its own leader. The Tairona built impressive stone cities, such as Ciudad Perdida, which showcased their architectural skills. Today, their descendants continue to preserve their cultural heritage, and the Tairona's historical sites attract many visitors interested in indigenous history.
