Tagish First Nation
The Tagish First Nation is an Indigenous group located in the Yukon Territory of Canada. They are part of the larger Tlingit cultural family and have a rich history that includes traditional practices, languages, and governance systems. The Tagish people traditionally relied on the land for sustenance, engaging in activities like fishing, hunting, and gathering.
In 1998, the Tagish First Nation signed a land claim agreement with the Government of Canada, which recognized their rights to land and resources. This agreement is part of the broader Yukon Land Claims Agreement, aimed at promoting self-governance and economic development for Indigenous communities in the region.
