T-Cell Receptors
T-Cell Receptors (TCRs) are specialized proteins found on the surface of T-cells, a type of white blood cell crucial for the immune system. TCRs recognize and bind to specific fragments of antigens, which are molecules from pathogens like viruses or bacteria. This binding activates the T-cells, enabling them to respond to infections and help protect the body.
Each TCR is unique, allowing the immune system to identify a wide variety of antigens. When a TCR binds to its specific antigen, it triggers a series of cellular responses, leading to the destruction of infected cells and the coordination of other immune responses.
