Tōgō Heihachirō
Tōgō Heihachirō was a prominent Japanese naval officer and admiral, best known for his leadership during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). Born on March 27, 1848, in Kōchi, Japan, he played a crucial role in modernizing the Japanese navy and implementing Western naval tactics. His most famous victory came at the Battle of Tsushima, where his fleet decisively defeated the Russian navy.
Tōgō's strategic skills and innovative approaches earned him the nickname "the Nelson of the East," in reference to the British admiral Horatio Nelson. After the war, he became a national hero in Japan and was instrumental in establishing Japan as a major naval power in the early 20th century. He passed away on May 30, 1934.
