Svan towers
The Svan towers are traditional stone structures found in the Svaneti region of Georgia. These tall, narrow buildings were primarily used as defensive fortifications and living spaces for the Svan people. They typically feature a square base and are made from local stone, blending harmoniously with the mountainous landscape.
Constructed between the 9th and 12th centuries, Svan towers served multiple purposes, including storage for valuables and protection against invaders. Many of these towers are still standing today, showcasing the unique architectural style and cultural heritage of the Svaneti region, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
