Surma people
The Surma people are an ethnic group primarily found in the Suri region of southwestern Ethiopia. They are known for their unique cultural practices, including traditional music, dance, and body art. The Surma people primarily engage in agriculture and cattle herding, which are central to their way of life.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Surma culture is the practice of lip plating, where women insert large discs into their lower lips as a form of beauty and social status. The Surma people also have a rich oral tradition, passing down stories and history through generations, which reflects their deep connection to their land and heritage.
