Surigao Strait
The Surigao Strait is a narrow body of water located in the Philippines, separating the islands of Mindanao and Leyte. It connects the Philippine Sea to the Sulu Sea and is known for its significant role in maritime navigation. The strait is approximately 30 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide at its narrowest point.
This strait is also famous for the historic Battle of Surigao Strait during World War II, where Allied forces engaged the Japanese fleet. The area is rich in marine biodiversity, making it an important site for fishing and ecological studies.
