Surf Scoter
The Surf Scoter is a large sea duck found along the coasts of North America. It is easily recognizable by its striking black plumage and distinctive colorful bill, which features bright orange, yellow, and white markings. These birds primarily inhabit coastal waters and are often seen diving for food, such as mollusks and crustaceans.
During the breeding season, Surf Scoters migrate to freshwater lakes and ponds in northern Canada and Alaska. They typically nest on the ground, laying a clutch of 5 to 9 eggs. After hatching, the ducklings are precocial, meaning they can swim and feed themselves shortly after leaving the nest.
