Black Scoter
The Black Scoter is a large sea duck found primarily along the coasts of North America and Eurasia. It is easily recognizable by its all-black plumage in males, while females are brown with lighter patches. These ducks are often seen in flocks and prefer coastal waters, especially during migration.
Black Scoters feed mainly on mollusks, crustaceans, and aquatic plants. They dive underwater to forage for food, using their strong swimming abilities. During the breeding season, they nest in freshwater habitats, typically near the coast, and are known for their distinctive, low-pitched calls.
