Sun of Vergina
The "Sun of Vergina" is an ancient symbol associated with the royal tombs of Vergina, a site in northern Greece. This emblem features a stylized sun with sixteen rays and is believed to represent the Macedonian royal family, particularly linked to King Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great.
Discovered in the 1970s by archaeologist Manolis Andronikos, the symbol has become a significant cultural icon in Greece. It is often used in various contexts, including art and national identity, reflecting the historical importance of the Macedonian heritage.
