The Sun Bear is the smallest bear species, native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. They are easily recognized by their short, sleek black fur and a distinctive orange or white crescent-shaped patch on their chest. Adult sun bears typically weigh between 60 to 150 pounds and measure about 4 to 5 feet in length. Sun bears are primarily nocturnal and are excellent climbers, often found foraging for insects, fruits, and honey in trees. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to disperse seeds and control insect populations. Due to habitat loss and poaching, sun bears are classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
