Summersville Dam
Summersville Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the Gauley River in Nicholas County, West Virginia. Completed in 1966, it serves multiple purposes, including flood control, water supply, and hydroelectric power generation. The dam creates Summersville Lake, which is the largest lake in West Virginia.
The dam stands 385 feet tall and stretches 1,200 feet across. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and plays a crucial role in managing water levels and providing recreational opportunities, such as fishing and boating, in the surrounding area.
