Sudan Campaign
The Sudan Campaign refers to a series of military operations conducted in the late 19th century, primarily between 1881 and 1899. It aimed to suppress the Mahdist uprising led by Muhammad Ahmad, who declared himself the Mahdi, or guided one. The campaign involved British and Egyptian forces working together to regain control over Sudan, which had fallen into chaos.
The campaign culminated in the decisive Battle of Omdurman in 1898, where British forces, under General Kitchener, defeated the Mahdist army. This victory solidified British control over Sudan and marked the beginning of the Anglo-Egyptian rule, which lasted until the mid-20th century.
