Subramanian Chandrasekhar
Subramanian Chandrasekhar was an Indian-American astrophysicist born on October 19, 1910, in Lahore, British India. He is best known for his work on the structure and evolution of stars, particularly for the Chandrasekhar limit, which describes the maximum mass of a stable white dwarf star. His groundbreaking research significantly advanced the field of astrophysics.
In 1983, Chandrasekhar was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the understanding of stellar dynamics. He spent much of his career at the University of Chicago, where he influenced many students and researchers. Chandrasekhar passed away on August 21, 1995, leaving a lasting legacy in science.
