Submandibular Glands
The submandibular glands are two salivary glands located beneath the jaw, one on each side. They are responsible for producing saliva, which aids in digestion and helps keep the mouth moist. These glands are part of the body's salivary system, which includes other glands like the parotid glands and sublingual glands.
Each submandibular gland has a duct that opens into the mouth, allowing saliva to flow directly where it is needed. The saliva produced by these glands contains enzymes that begin the digestion of food and help maintain oral health by washing away food particles and bacteria.
