The sublingual glands are a pair of small salivary glands located beneath the tongue. They are part of the salivary gland system, which produces saliva to aid in digestion and keep the mouth moist. The sublingual glands primarily secrete a type of saliva that is rich in mucins, which helps lubricate food during chewing and swallowing.
These glands are the smallest of the major salivary glands and are situated on either side of the midline of the floor of the mouth. Their secretions are released through several small ducts that open into the mouth, contributing to the overall function of the oral cavity in digestion and oral health.
