Striatum
The striatum is a critical part of the brain located within the basal ganglia. It plays a key role in coordinating movement, as well as in various cognitive functions such as decision-making and reward processing. The striatum is divided into two main regions: the caudate nucleus and the putamen, which work together to help regulate voluntary motor control and habits.
This structure is also involved in the brain's reward system, influencing behaviors related to pleasure and motivation. Dysfunction in the striatum is associated with several neurological disorders, including Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease, highlighting its importance in both movement and cognitive health.
