Stolen Generations
The term "Stolen Generations" refers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Australia who were forcibly removed from their families by government policies from the late 1800s to the 1970s. These policies aimed to assimilate Indigenous children into white Australian society, often resulting in significant trauma and loss of cultural identity.
Many of these children were placed in institutions or with non-Indigenous families, leading to a disconnection from their heritage. The impact of these actions is still felt today, as communities work towards healing and reconciliation, acknowledging the historical injustices faced by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
