Sternberg's Triangular Theory
Sternberg's Triangular Theory of Love, proposed by psychologist Robert Sternberg, suggests that love consists of three key components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. Intimacy refers to the emotional closeness and connection between partners, while passion involves the physical attraction and sexual desire. Commitment is the decision to maintain the relationship over time.
The combination of these three elements creates different types of love. For example, a relationship with high intimacy and commitment but low passion may be characterized as companionate love, while one with high passion and low intimacy may be seen as infatuation. Understanding these components helps explain the complexity of romantic relationships.
