Stephen, Count of Blois
Stephen, Count of Blois (c. 1092–1154), was a French nobleman and a key figure in the early 12th century. He was the son of Stephen, Count of Blois and Adela of Normandy, making him a grandson of William the Conqueror. Stephen became the King of England in 1135, following the death of his uncle, Henry I, which led to a period of civil war known as the Anarchy.
His reign was marked by conflict with his cousin, Empress Matilda, who also claimed the throne. Stephen's rule faced challenges from various barons and was characterized by instability and power struggles. Despite his efforts to maintain control, his reign ultimately ended with the ascension of Henry II, marking a significant shift in English history.
