Star-shaped Fortresses
Star-shaped fortresses are military structures designed in a star shape, which allows for better defense against attacks. The pointed angles of the star design provide overlapping fields of fire for defenders, making it difficult for enemies to approach. These fortifications became popular during the Renaissance period, as advancements in artillery made traditional round forts less effective.
One of the most famous examples of a star-shaped fortress is the Citadel of Vauban in France, named after the military engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. These fortresses often feature thick walls and bastions, which are projections that enhance defensive capabilities.
