St. Hedwig of Silesia
St. Hedwig of Silesia was a noblewoman born in 1174 in Bavaria, Germany. She married Henry I the Bearded, the Duke of Silesia, and became known for her deep faith and charitable works. Together, they had seven children, and Hedwig dedicated her life to helping the poor and supporting the church.
After her husband's death in 1238, St. Hedwig became a nun and founded the Cistercian monastery in Trzebnica. She was canonized by Pope Clement IV in 1267, and her feast day is celebrated on October 16. St. Hedwig is recognized as the patron saint of Silesia and orphans.
