St. Alexander Nevsky
St. Alexander Nevsky was a prominent Russian prince and military leader born in 1220. He is best known for his victories against foreign invaders, particularly the Swedes and Teutonic Knights. His leadership during the Battle of the Neva in 1240 and the Battle on the Ice in 1242 solidified his reputation as a national hero.
After his death in 1263, Alexander was canonized as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church. His legacy is celebrated in various forms, including the grand Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, Bulgaria, which honors his contributions to both Russian and Eastern Orthodox history.
