Srebrenica
Srebrenica is a town in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its tragic history during the Bosnian War in the 1990s. In July 1995, it became the site of a significant event when more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were killed in what is now recognized as a genocide. This event was part of a larger conflict involving ethnic tensions among Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats.
The Srebrenica massacre has had lasting impacts on the region and is a crucial part of discussions about war crimes and reconciliation in the Balkans. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has prosecuted several individuals for their roles in the massacre, highlighting the importance of accountability in addressing historical injustices.
