Splanchnic Circulation
Splanchnic circulation refers to the blood flow to the organs in the abdominal cavity, primarily the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, and spleen. This circulation is crucial for digestion and nutrient absorption, as it supplies oxygen-rich blood to these organs and helps transport absorbed nutrients to the liver for processing.
The splanchnic circulation is primarily supplied by the celiac trunk and the superior and inferior mesenteric arteries. Blood from these organs is collected by the hepatic portal vein, which carries it to the liver before it returns to the heart. This system ensures that nutrients are efficiently processed and toxins are filtered out.
