Spikes Protein
Spikes Protein is a crucial component found on the surface of certain viruses, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. This protein plays a key role in how the virus enters human cells by binding to the ACE2 receptor, allowing the virus to infect the host.
In addition to its role in infection, the Spikes Protein is also a target for vaccines. Many COVID-19 vaccines, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, use a piece of the genetic code for this protein to stimulate an immune response, helping the body recognize and fight the virus if exposed in the future.
