The sperm whale is the largest toothed whale, known for its distinctive block-shaped head. Adult males can reach lengths of up to 20.5 meters (67 feet) and weigh as much as 57,000 kilograms (125,000 pounds). They are deep divers, capable of reaching depths of over 2,000 meters (6,600 feet) in search of their primary food source, which includes squid and other deep-sea creatures.
Sperm whales are social animals, often found in groups called pods, which typically consist of females and their young. Males tend to be more solitary, leaving the pod when they reach maturity. These whales are also known for their unique vocalizations, which can be heard over long distances and are used for communication and echolocation.
