Spanish Peaks Wilderness
The Spanish Peaks Wilderness is a protected area located in the southern part of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. It covers approximately 19,000 acres and is known for its stunning landscapes, including rugged mountains, deep canyons, and diverse ecosystems. The area is home to various wildlife species, such as deer, elk, and numerous bird species.
Established in 2000, the wilderness is part of the larger San Isabel National Forest. It offers numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing. The prominent features of the wilderness are the twin peaks, known as the Spanish Peaks, which rise dramatically above the surrounding terrain.
