SpaceShipOne
SpaceShipOne is a suborbital spaceplane designed for private spaceflight. Developed by Scaled Composites, it became the first privately funded spacecraft to reach space on June 21, 2004. The vehicle was launched from a mothership called White Knight and achieved a maximum altitude of 62 miles, crossing the Kármán line, which is commonly recognized as the boundary of space.
The successful flights of SpaceShipOne demonstrated the potential for commercial space travel and paved the way for future private space ventures. It won the Ansari X Prize in 2004, which awarded $10 million to the first non-governmental spacecraft to fly to space twice within two weeks.
