Southeast Lighthouse
The Southeast Lighthouse is located on Block Island, Rhode Island. Built in 1875, it stands 156 feet tall and is one of the tallest lighthouses in the United States. The lighthouse was constructed to guide ships safely through the waters surrounding the island and has a distinctive white and black striped design.
In 1993, the Southeast Lighthouse was moved 300 feet inland to protect it from coastal erosion. It is now part of the Block Island Southeast Lighthouse Foundation, which works to preserve the structure and educate visitors about its history and significance in maritime navigation.
