Southeast Asian hornbills
Southeast Asian hornbills are large, colorful birds found in tropical forests across countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. They are known for their distinctive curved bills, which can be quite large and often have a casque on top. These birds play a vital role in their ecosystems by dispersing seeds, helping to maintain forest health.
There are about 54 species of hornbills, with some being more endangered than others due to habitat loss and hunting. They are social birds, often seen in pairs or small groups, and are known for their unique nesting behavior, where females seal themselves inside tree cavities during breeding.
