South China Tiger
The South China Tiger is a critically endangered subspecies of tiger native to the forests and grasslands of southern China. It is known for its distinctive orange coat with black stripes and is one of the smallest tiger subspecies. Historically, it roamed a wide range of habitats, but due to habitat loss and poaching, its population has drastically declined.
Efforts to conserve the South China Tiger have included breeding programs and habitat restoration. Despite these efforts, the last confirmed sighting in the wild was in the 1990s, leading many to believe it may be functionally extinct. Conservationists continue to advocate for its protection and potential reintroduction into the wild.
