Sophie Dorothea of Hanover
Sophie Dorothea of Hanover (1687-1757) was a German princess, the daughter of Ernest Augustus, Elector of Hanover and Sophia of the Palatinate. She married George I of Great Britain in 1705, becoming Queen Consort. Their marriage was troubled, leading to her estrangement from George after he became king in 1714.
Sophie Dorothea spent much of her life in exile in Hanover, where she was known for her intelligence and strong character. Despite her royal status, she faced personal challenges, including her husband's infidelity and political intrigues, which shaped her legacy in European history.
