Sophia Dorothea of Hanover
Sophia Dorothea of Hanover (1687-1757) was a German princess and the daughter of Ernest Augustus, Elector of Hanover and Sophia of the Palatinate. She married George I of Great Britain in 1705, becoming the Queen Consort of Great Britain. Their marriage was troubled, leading to her estrangement from George and her eventual imprisonment.
Sophia Dorothea spent much of her life in exile at Ahlden Castle after her separation from George I. Despite her royal status, she lived a secluded life, and her story reflects the complexities of royal marriages in the 18th century.
