Sooty Shearwater
The Sooty Shearwater is a large seabird known for its long wings and streamlined body. It typically measures about 15 to 20 inches in length and has a wingspan of up to 4.5 feet. These birds are primarily found in the Southern Hemisphere, migrating thousands of miles between breeding grounds in places like New Zealand and feeding areas in the North Pacific.
Sooty Shearwaters are excellent fliers, often gliding over the ocean's surface while searching for food. Their diet mainly consists of fish and squid, which they catch by diving into the water. These birds are known for their remarkable endurance during long migrations, making them one of the most traveled birds in the world.
