The Somatic Nervous System is a part of the nervous system that controls voluntary movements. It connects the brain and spinal cord to the muscles, allowing us to perform actions like walking, talking, and writing. When you decide to move, signals travel from your brain through the somatic nerves to your muscles, telling them to contract and create movement.
This system also helps us sense our environment. It includes sensory neurons that carry information from our skin, muscles, and joints back to the brain. For example, when you touch something hot, the somatic nervous system quickly sends a signal to your brain, prompting you to pull your hand away.
