Sobornoye Ulozheniye
Sobornoye Ulozheniye, or the "Code of Laws," was a comprehensive legal code established in 1649 in the Tsardom of Russia. It aimed to unify and systematize the diverse laws and customs that existed across the vast territories of Russia at the time. This code addressed various aspects of life, including civil, criminal, and administrative law, and was significant in shaping the legal framework of the country.
The Sobornoye Ulozheniye also reinforced the social hierarchy and serfdom, defining the rights and obligations of different classes, including nobles and peasants. Its implementation marked a crucial step in the development of Russian law, influencing future legal reforms and the governance of the state.
