Snowy Egret
The Snowy Egret is a small, elegant wading bird known for its striking white plumage and long, slender legs. It typically measures about 24 to 26 inches in length and has a distinctive yellow patch near its eyes. This bird is commonly found in shallow coastal waters, marshes, and wetlands, where it hunts for fish, crustaceans, and insects.
During the breeding season, the Snowy Egret develops long, delicate plumes on its back, which were once highly sought after for fashion. These birds are known for their graceful hunting technique, often standing still and then quickly striking to catch prey. They are a part of the Ardeidae family, which includes other herons and egrets.
