Snapping Turtles
Snapping turtles are large freshwater turtles known for their powerful jaws and distinctive appearance. They have a rugged shell, which can vary in color from brown to olive, and a long tail that can be as long as their shell. These turtles are primarily found in rivers, lakes, and ponds across North America, where they prefer slow-moving waters.
These reptiles are opportunistic feeders, consuming a variety of foods, including fish, amphibians, and even plants. Unlike many other turtles, snapping turtles cannot retract their heads into their shells, making them more vulnerable. They are known for their aggressive behavior when threatened, which is why they are often avoided by humans and other animals.
