Alligator Snapping Turtle
The Alligator Snapping Turtle is one of the largest freshwater turtles in North America, known for its distinctive appearance. It can weigh over 200 pounds and has a rugged shell that resembles an alligator's back. This turtle is primarily found in rivers, lakes, and swamps in the southeastern United States.
These turtles are famous for their unique hunting technique. They have a worm-like appendage on their tongue that they use as a lure to attract fish. When a fish comes close, the Alligator Snapping Turtle quickly snaps its powerful jaws to catch its prey.
