Slovak Nationalism
Slovak nationalism is a political and cultural movement that seeks to promote the interests and identity of the Slovak people. It emerged in the 19th century as a response to the dominance of Hungarian culture and governance in the region. Slovak nationalists aimed to preserve the Slovak language, traditions, and heritage, advocating for greater autonomy and recognition within the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The movement gained momentum during the 20th century, particularly after the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918. Slovak nationalism played a significant role in the country's politics, especially during the interwar period and after World War II, influencing the quest for an independent Slovak Republic in 1993.
