Slavic Muslims
Slavic Muslims are individuals of Slavic descent who practice Islam. This group primarily includes people from countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Montenegro, where Islam has been a significant part of the cultural landscape for centuries. The majority of Slavic Muslims are descendants of the Ottoman Empire, which influenced the region's religious demographics.
In addition to the Balkans, there are also smaller communities of Slavic Muslims in Russia, particularly among the Tatars and Bashkirs. These groups maintain their unique cultural identities while practicing Islam, contributing to the diverse tapestry of Muslim communities in Europe and beyond.
