Slapped Cheek Syndrome
Slapped Cheek Syndrome, also known as Fifth Disease, is a common viral infection primarily affecting children. It is caused by the parvovirus B19 and is characterized by a distinctive red rash on the cheeks, giving the appearance of being slapped. The rash may also spread to the body and limbs, often accompanied by mild fever and cold-like symptoms.
The condition is usually mild and resolves on its own without treatment. It is contagious, especially before the rash appears, but most children recover fully without complications. Once infected, individuals typically gain immunity, making future infections rare.
