Skinhead Culture
Skinhead culture originated in the late 1960s in the United Kingdom, initially as a working-class youth movement. It was characterized by a distinct style, including shaved heads, boots, and suspenders, and was influenced by Jamaican reggae and British mod music. The culture celebrated unity and camaraderie among its members, often gathering at pubs and music venues.
Over time, skinhead culture became associated with various political ideologies, including far-right extremism and anti-racism movements. While some skinheads embraced racist beliefs, others, known as SHARPs (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice), actively opposed such ideologies. Today, skinhead culture remains diverse, with different factions reflecting a range of beliefs and values.
