Sinhala Script
Sinhala Script is a writing system used primarily for the Sinhala language, which is spoken in Sri Lanka. It is an abugida, meaning each character represents a consonant with an inherent vowel sound. Additional marks can be added to change the vowel sound or to indicate the absence of a vowel.
The script has a rich history, evolving from the ancient Brahmi script around the 3rd century BCE. It consists of 60 letters, including 18 vowels and 42 consonants, and is known for its distinctive rounded shapes. Today, it is used in various forms of communication, including literature, education, and digital media.
