Simon Rodia
Simon Rodia was an Italian-American artist and construction worker, best known for creating the iconic Watts Towers in Los Angeles, California. Born on February 12, 1879, in Italy, he immigrated to the United States in 1905. Rodia spent over 30 years building the towers, which are made from steel and covered with colorful mosaics, using materials he collected from his neighborhood.
Rodia worked on the Watts Towers from 1921 to 1954, often using simple tools and his creativity to shape the structures. His work is celebrated for its unique artistic vision and has become a symbol of the Los Angeles art scene. Rodia passed away on July 17, 1965, but his legacy continues to inspire artists and visitors alike.
