Silverfish
Silverfish are small, wingless insects known for their silvery-gray color and fish-like appearance. They typically measure about 1/2 to 1 inch long and have long antennae and three long bristles at the rear. Silverfish thrive in dark, damp environments, often found in basements, bathrooms, and kitchens. They feed on carbohydrates, particularly starches and sugars, which can lead to damage in books, wallpaper, and food products.
These insects are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at night. Silverfish reproduce quickly, laying dozens of eggs at a time, which can lead to infestations if not controlled. While they are not harmful to humans, their presence can be a nuisance and may indicate moisture problems in the home.
