Silver Bridge
The Silver Bridge was a suspension bridge that connected Point Pleasant, West Virginia, to Gallipolis, Ohio, spanning the Ohio River. Opened in 1928, it was named for its silver-colored paint and was a vital transportation link for the region.
Tragically, the bridge collapsed on December 15, 1967, during rush hour, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. The disaster led to increased scrutiny of bridge safety standards and the eventual implementation of more rigorous inspection protocols across the United States, impacting the future of infrastructure maintenance and safety, including other structures like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
